Brainstorming for the summerhouse: bedrooms and sleeping loft.

  • Brainstorming for the summerhouse: bedrooms and sleeping loft.

By Katla HreiðarsdóttirSeptember 09, 2015

We keep on brainstorming for the summerhouse. The paint-job is going super well and is almost finished. It is taking a while to paint this though, not having flawless walls but panelling means brushes which is so time consuming. It will however look super cosy and warm so I believe it is totally worth it.

Bedroom one:

We were thinking of having the bedrooms in all white but after a great consideration de decided to go with the same grey as in the main space. The house isn't huge and keeping consistency we believe will function better.

The first bedroom is the largest, great closets with beautiful panelling and lovely ceilings which will be white. We want to keep this room light and intend to use soft greys, beige, gold and perhaps a little gammel-rose pinks. The main thing is lovely lighting which is good for reading and snuggling.. I mean that is the point of cosy summerhouses right?!

This image describes this room pretty well:

Mér finnst líka ofsalega fallegt að blanda svolítið af bleikum tónum við gyllt og grátt eins og sést á þessari mynd, svo það væri gaman að finna fallegt efni í "gammel-rose"..svolítið svona "Lauru Ashley" tón. Eins og hér er líka fallegt að grípa gyllta litinn með skrautmunum á náttborðinu.

Við erum aðeins að hugsa um náttborðin hér, það væri gaman og parktískt að koma fyrir kommóðu öðru megin, en hinum megin gæti verið annarskonar náttborð. Við erum ekki alveg búin að ákeða þetta, en hér eru td nokkrar sniðugar hugmyndir:

We have found some samples of fabrics for the bedspread, natural, grey/brown soft tones mixed with a bit of soft velour, glitter and knits. I love mixing textures and think it makes everything look more "expensive" and interesting.

Bedroom two.

The second bedroom will be a bit cooler, more grey tones and blacks. We want to keep on mixing textures and the bedspread will be a mix of black velour edging and a grey wool blend. Pillows in blacks, knits, greys and perhaps we will introduce a little green to this space, I think that could look good.

These couple of images sort of give you the right feel..

Can you imagine how lovely this can look, cool and crisp and not exactly summerhouse-y, but we think it will work! Girls gotta hope right?!

We would also like to include some green velvet in this room.. and btw I LOVE these chairs! OMG!

The green is a bit fresh and a bit different, don't you think?

We also love the way they set up the frames here above the bed, we will definitely take influence from that!

Here we won't be able to fit a wardrobe so we are thinking about a dresser and a hanging system, some sort of hangers or wooden pole.. yeah some sweet inspiration here:

The loft.

Finally we have the loft bedroom. It is a very low space, crawling really and perfect for kids and teenagers. I do think I will spend a lot of time here reading, it is the perfect place to read I believe. Very snugly, cosy and now since it has become white, super crisp and clean, bright and fresh, (wow lots of adjectives!!.. but you get the point)

This is how it was before...

This is how we want it to look...

We have two old suitcases and one of them is blue, which we want to use as bedside table on one side with an empty box on the other side. The colour blue will be kept throughout in detailing, pictures, cushions and a throw.

We are having rugs in every bedroom under the front part of the bed like so:

We would however like to change it up a bit on the loft and have two smaller ones on either side of the bed.. oh you know, just because! :)

Something like this and we found lovely rugs at Ilva in Iceland.

The rugs are like these:

The loft is surprisingly spacious and we are going to fit in a kids play-space mixed with a TV area and an extra bed. It sounds like it is huge but really it's just a space all in one.

We have a single box mattress from IKEA we are going to use without legs, cover it with foe leather and bunch of pillows, essentially making it a sofa/bed. Then we are going to sew two bean bags from the same material and place couple of side-tables made of old wooden boxes with cute lamps. The devil is in the details you know!

Then we found a cheap second hand TV cabinet we are placing on the middle of the floor and that will actually divide the space into two but still keeping everything open and light: TV/kids area VS bedroom space. Are you seeing it?!
