It’s not like us sisters get very easily bored, normally we have way too much work to finish to get bored, and beside that is not the point of this post.
But we do like to do something different from time to time, and it doesn't have to be that extravagant or super expensive to be fabulous!
When I had my birthday 22nd of March she gave me a surprise trip as a gift and it was awesome! And she has done this for so many people so I thought it was time she got a trip on her own!
She got picked up at her home and driven to Mosfellsbær, a town in the capital area, to Úlfarsfell which is a little mountain or a hill (for us it was a freaking mountain) and there we were dropped off!
She had never been so we started walking up up up…
On the way, (mainly because I was getting a bit tired, and there was wind) we stopped, I pulled out a little blanket from my backpack and two beers! Simple enough, a little chat and on we went.
We reached the top of the mountain and I gave her my phone where I had installed coordinates for our next location and she had to follow a compass.
The walk was WAY longer than I had anticipated but it was fine, we weren't on any specific time schedule so we worked up a great appetite on the way.
Then we ended in Kvos, a beautiful area in Mosfellsbær and we went to Álafoss Kaffi, a little coffee house that had lunch buffet when we arrived. Cooled down a bit after the sweat and ate. From there we checked out some of the art galleries that were open at the time.
Met a knife maker and got to see his workshop, extremely cluttered and messy exactly how we like it!
We then went to Ásgarður which is an arts and crafts workshop founded 1993 and they have a licence to work as a sheltered workplace. It has staff members of 30 mentally challenged individuals plus 7 guides.
It is such an amazing place, they have great ambition to work and develop the human aspect of the work. Each person’s ability is greatly respected and they are assisted to gain control of their ideas, tools and thought how to work with it. They take part in the design process from the beginning to the finished product.
We got a guided tour around the whole workplace, got to meet the guys, see their projects and spend a little time in their life. As you can see from the photos, it was amazing!
After the tour we went to a house nearby to get our bikes, they had been brought there the night before and my sister had no idea! This was the best surprise in her head, just the thought that someone went through the trouble.. (it wasn't hard and didn't cost a dime, just drove the bikes there the night before and left them locked, simple and easy, but sometimes the simple things work the best!)
We wheeled ourselves to the swimming pool where we veggied out in the hot tub for an hour or so. From there, back on the bikes to Egilshöll, a bowling alley. But there my organisation skills failed big time, it was FULLY BOOKED! So we ate a bit, drank some more and waited for my sister’s husband to pick us and the bikes up to drive to the next spot. We were going to ride our bikes there, but my bum could not handle any more of those tiny bicycle seats!
Home we got, pampered ourselves and went out to a dinner! It was a great day and so simple, cheap and my sis had a blast with her surprise day!
Why not do something like this for your friend, partner and or kids.. it’s a mission for the summer!
Create your own happiness!
