We threw a December birthday party for Nói last night but he just turned 12 years old!
Nói is María and Börkur's son and I can hardly believe that there have been 12 years since his birth! It seems like it was yesterday.. and that might indicate I am getting older.. hmm well..
María wrote so well about him here: 12 years ago this little golden-calf was born, the 22. of December, at 13:56, 53 centimetres and 3665 grams! He had his umbilical cord wrapped around his torso twice! He is the child that wakes up smiling, is so sweet and loving to all things and humans! He is an allergy child but that doesn't stop him at all and he is for sure our little hero! He is our little musicologist, happy birthday dear son and I will serve Chocolate Rice Crispy treats tonight and you may have as many as you like!!!
He loves his PlayStation computer and he wished to play that on a large screen, and ofcourse that is what he got!
Well for us that wasn't really enough so we made some craft stations for the kids to try out between games!
We for example made these orange candles but you can also do these with mandarines, simpler if anything!
This is little bit like magic and good for the party entertainers to have this trick in the back pocket!
You simply cut the orange in half and remove all the pulp carefully, please take care the "wick" or the centre of the orange stays intact. Then you pour some oil into the centre and smudge up the sides, also take care you cover the wick in oil. Then you simply light it and voilà! An orange candle! (It can take a little patience for the wick to catch fire, but it does work!)
One happy birthday boy!
Braided heart baskets.
These are quite simple to make and i remember doing these at my grandmothers when I was younger!
The best descriptions for these can be found here:
There are loads of patterns available on Pinterest for example such as these.
"Mini pom poms" got "mass produced" last night, but they are so simple and fun! These have also been very popular on Pinterest!
We made miniature versions of them with 5 sheets of paper at a time and tied string so they could be hung on the Christmas tree.
Lets not forget the lovely origami trees. I absolutely love these and have even written about these before:
We thank the kids for a lovely afternoon, such a crisp and clear bunch with great humour and wit!
And dear Nói, Happy birthday!!!
Create your own happiness!
If you liked this post, please be a dear and share the joy:)
