My sister and I decided to do a little weekend getaway and bought a trip to Copenhagen. My niece, María’s daughter lives there with her boyfriend where they study so the sofa was our bunk for the weekend and they took us on a trip around the city. Spoiled ladies we were indeed and loved every second!
We had agenda for the weekend: absolutely no plan at all!
Ahh and it was liberating for sure! For planners like ourselves, this was exactly what we needed!
After a little tax free shopping at the airport we enjoyed some bubbles on air and played cards, gossiped, slept and looked forward to the weekend ahead!
Mekkín came to the airport and welcomed us with hugs and kisses and according "selfies" of course!
Couple more glasses of bubbles and I started speaking Danish.. didn’t really expect that so soon after arrival. I studied in Denmark for a while couple of years ago and it was nice to remember a bit of the local language.. I could well manage and then some.. maybe just the bubbles talking but still!
The weather was fab and nicer than it had been for a while, even some sunshine to welcome us sisters and we really appreciated it!
For the first evening we all decided to go out to Sticks n’sushi!
Ahh the food left us speechless and let me tell you: that for one thing is hard to do! Couple of fantastic cocktails and some really nice food and I was willing to adopt the chef! Not at all over yet because the desserts were, for reals, OUT OF THIS WORLD! We absolutely loved every single bite!
My sister and I have a hard time deciding on "only one thing", especially when it comes to some sweet things, so we chose the “taste menu” with no less than NINE different desserts and every single one was to die for! The Espresso Martini just took us over the edge and we left the restaurant in utter bliss!
Ella Fitzgerald and Danish furnitures - I'm in heaven!
Onwards and upwards, not that we thought that would be possible after the amazing meal. The quartet took to the feet and walked about the city with our phones as our guiding lights and Trip Advisor led us to a little bar. Didn’t really look like much from the outside, quite dark interior and well semi in a basement really. We thought that for the first Trip Advisor would have failed but let me tell you – Duck and Cover is the jewels name and we were so happy with the lucky find!
We had landed in the 1960’s and I, funnily enough was wearing a jumpsuit with large golden bangles and a big hair bun and felt right at home! Soft jazzy Ella and some beautiful classic Danish teak furnishings and greenery welcomed us, plus the bartenders were quite cute and served us amazing cocktails!
What a great start to this weekend!
When I had taken started planning my remodelling of my apartment back in Reykjavík and really began thinking: “how will I sell this idea to Tota”.. it was time to go home!
Mekkín and Arnar live a little away from the city centre so a train and a bus ride later with some serious selfie moments in bliss town, a deep sleep on the sofa was just the perfect ending to our first day!
